Some nice news to share.
Last night I was recognized for two stories I wrote last year by the DC chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists—which gives annual awards in different categories, including for local D.C. reporting. All the entries are judged by volunteers from a different chapter of SPJ, in this case, the Western Pennsylvania chapter.
I am very happy to win for these two stories, as I spent a great deal of time on both of them in 2018. For those who are paying-subscribers to this newsletter, a special thanks to you, for the financial support I had to do these freelance pieces right.
(If you didn’t see those stories when they originally came out, you can read them here and here.)

In other news, I have a new story in The American Prospect’s summer issue on the national movement to teach financial literacy in schools, in an age of dwindling consumer protections. I take a broad look — at where the push came from, why financial literacy education is spreading so fast, what the research says about it, and who benefits.
Congrats, Rachel- well-deserved!
Yes, congratulations!
