the first big test for abortion rights post-Roe is next week in Kansas
and why you might finally stop receiving campaign texts you didn't sign up for
As much as I really hate that reproductive rights are now even more at the whims of voters and lawmakers, since the Dobbs decision they… are… and the first test of what that looks like is happening next week in Kansas.
The outcome won’t be dispositive for the midterms, but it’s definitely going to be a signal for how and whether voters are mobilizing around the rollback of abortion rights. I wrote about why it’s happening, what it means, and what to expect.
I also wrote about why political campaigns are worried because mobile carriers like A&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are moving to curb all those spam texts you never signed up for. Nonprofit advocacy groups and Democratic campaign leaders say this will hurt their efforts to fight voter suppression and misinformation ahead of the midterms. Others say it’s a good and overdue measure to require opt-in consent. You can read that here.
Hope you all are having a good summer! More soon. Thank you for reading.
